On the 21st of March 2013 Dream-A-Way were extremely honoured and delighted to be invited to attend the Commissioning of Her Majesty’s Ship DEFENDER at the Naval Base in Portsmouth . Jeff, Bob, Tina and I proudly went along to represent Dream-A-Way at this very special occasion
In true Royal Naval Fashion the ceremony went like clockwork and was extremely impressive.
Sadly not even the Royal Navy could engineer a warm and sunny day and the cold ,the wind and rain were present throughout .
This, however , did nothing to dampen our enthusiasm or the ceremony of the event.
We all felt really sorry for the members of the Ship’s Company who remained at attention throughout
I am sure that everyone was delighted to move on into the relative warmth of the Marquee later where we were then treated to a delicious lunch
Having been befriended by HMS Defender since 2010 we had met quite a few of the Ship’s Company and Her Commanding Officer Philip Nash before ,so it was a real pleasure to meet up and chat with many of them again.
We were delighted too to be introduced to Fleet Commander Philip Jones CB
As is traditional , there was an impressive commissioning cake, cut by the Captain’s wife and the youngest member of the Ship’s Company
This truly was a day to remember
