We had heard through another family about the charity Dream-a-way based in Exeter, Devon providing short holidays and breaks for disadvantaged and special needs people. We decided to contact the charity ourselves as we, ourselves, have a special needs son called Thomas who suffers from epilepsy.
We did not have to wait too long before we heard from Jeff Merritt, the Chairman, who informed us of the good news that he could issue us with a grant towards a holiday.
We chose to put it towards a weekend in London for my son’s 17th birthday. We saw the travel agent Thomas Cook, who organised a fun-packed weekend for the August bank holiday for us which included staying in some very pleasant accommodation in Covent Garden, seeing The Lion King musical in the West End and visiting Sea life.
My son and all of us thought the Lion King was amazing and this was definitely the highlight of the weekend. For the rest of our time we managed to do some sightseeing and saw The Shard, the London Eye and even squeezed in a boat trip along the Thames plus a meal at the Rainforest Cafe in Leicester Square.
My son thoroughly enjoyed his weekend in London and had lots to tell his teachers and school friends when he got back to school. He said he would like to go again.
A big thank you to Dream-a-way from us as a family, for giving us this opportunity to experience such an amazing city break.
With best wishes
